Match Report
Merchiston Castle School U12A vs  Robert Gordon's College
On: Saturday, 06 Oct 2018
Venue: Away

Well that was a close, but really exciting and well thought through match. We played on half of a junior pitch which required a switch of mindset to cope with the lack of width and the need to run straight. We conceded three tries very quickly and this was due to poor handling and a lack of tackling. Just before half-time we managed to put one on the scoreboard through a bright interception from HW, which provided some confidence and settled the nerves. However, the RGC 10, used brilliant feet to score a fourth and from the restart, we tackled and regained and kept possession to secure a second try through ALN. So at half-time the score stood at 4 - 2. At half-time, we regathered ourselves, talked through our strategy to defend high, creating space through building phases and how to use the kick-chase to gain field position. HW scored two further tries through clear vision and power. Two tries were scored through clearing our own lines and through a quick and effective kick chase from ALN. Both tries were scored in the far left corner by HC. The final phase of the game produced a final attack from the brilliant RGC 10 and the game ended 6 tries to 5. Not a good start, but through a good defensive display and a carefully crafted attack the game ended in a positive result.
All the boys tackled well in the second half, but special mentions go to AW for his field positioning and NdV for his tackles. KW ran straight and FF crafted some good stuff in midfield. LR was intelligent with the ball in the contact and LM and RHP worked so reliably throughout the game.
